Since 1997, Ms. Yumi Ohashi has been teaching Japanese in Japan and the US.  She has taught business people, Japanese Proficiency Test (JLPT) takers, middle school students (US), and for the last decade, undergraduate college students(US). She started her career in administration in Japanese corporations and shifted to teaching Japanese. She earned her bachelor’s degree in “Nihon-ga” (Japanese traditional painting). She went on to acquire a Japanese teaching license from Japanese Language Institute.  She also earned a masters's degree in TESOL from Columbia University.  Her research focus at Columbia was on methods to improve the effectiveness of Japanese learning for native English speakers. She currently is pursuing her Doctoral of Education in Educational Technology. Her research interest is on how technology may accelerate the acquisition of JSL speaking skills, which is a near-greenfield topic that is important for the progression of Japanese language education.
