This volume provides a translation of the complete poetry and fu of Ruan Ji (210-263) in a new context that does not read his poetry as a loyalist of the Wei dynasty, but rather as someone who wanted stay alive in dangerous times. The volume also introduces English-language readers to the poetic works of Xi Kang, one of the greatest medieval Chinese writers.
